ACA Baseball Week in Review

The baseball season came to an end Friday as Alabama Christian (14-17) split a doubleheader with MA. ACA’s young team stayed in the postseason race until the last day of the season. The batting lineup for many games this year was made up of three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. In addition, three of the four regular starters were two sophomores and a freshman. Hopefully, a year of experience will pay dividends on the field next year.

Watching Jackson Burton hit the ball Friday brought a lot of “what if” thoughts to mind, but it was good to see him get some at-bats late in the year. The MA coaching staff was sure impressed as they intentionally walked Burton late in a meaningless game although they were aware of his situation. I’m not sure if they were trying to save the confidence of their pitchers or their physical safety as one of Burton’s hit almost took the pitcher into center field with the ball.
